Basketball never stops and certainly has no borders. Very few players make this more evident than Al Rayyan SC star and Qatar captain, Mohammed Hassan A Mohamed, popularly known as Mizo Amin.
In 2017, the Al Rayyan guard quelled any doubts as to who is the best three-point shooter in the Gulf Region, GCC, when he won the Gulf three-point shooting contest and was dubbed the king of threes (KO3). A sharpshooting guard who can do it all at both the one and two guard spots, with crafty ballhandling ability, great on-court vision, and pesty defence,
Mizo Amin was ranked seventh amongst the top ten three-point shooters in Asia by FIBA in 2016 after a sizzling performance at the 2016 FIBA Asia Championship. The name KO3 stuck with the Al Rayyan star and has become part of his identity, one which he appreciates and duly does justice to.
Basketball is a global game, something that Mizo Amin greatly appreciates as it allows him to spread love and friendship all over the world, and around Asia through the game he loves. One thing that always stays with Hassan Mohamed, however, is how much fans interact and recognise his play, and a recent visit to China just before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic was further proof. On the occasion of the 7th edition of the World Military Cup, which was hosted in Wuhan, China, in 2019, Mizo Amin got to witness the warmth of Chinese fans first hand as they chanted KO3 on a visit to one of the schools in the area. The Qatar team greeted the eager young fans, signing autographs, taking pictures, and spreading the word of basketball. It was an unforgettable moment for Hassan Mohamed, who did not expect such recognition but realised how big the game of basketball is and how much it means to be a role model for young fans.
The Qatar team kicked off the competition with an 80-64 loss to hosts, China, and would not have the best performance at the tournament, but the team showed heart and their biggest impact was off the court, as they forged bonds with fans and grew the global basketball community with their friendship. In what was an unforgettable experience in many ways for Mizo Amin, the 6’3’’ guard shared his heartfelt moments with fans on social media, and captioned the memories with an inspirational quote by Napoleon Hill.
“If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.”
