- Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray were the top recipients of the 2019 ATP Awards. The awards were declared on this Thursday. All-time-favourite Nadal managed to secure his position as the Player of the Year. He is also ranked as the top player in the world rankings.
He also got the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award. The award was voted by his fellow players for the second continuation year.
Nadal had also won the French Open as well as the US Open. He defeated Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev. He had won 19 majors in his career till now.
Murray received the award of the Comeback Player of the Year. He managed to secure a secure position for himself within a year after announcing his thought of retirement. Murray had decided to leave before undergoing hip resurfacing surgery.
Soon, he played the doubles circuit. He ended up winning the Queen’s Club Championships. He paired up with Feliciano Lopez. He also paired up with Serena Williams to go for Wimbledon.
The Briton had also won the European Open in October this year. He had also received his first singles crown in the ATP Tour within 31 months.
Jannik Sinner, rank 768, received the award of the Newcomer of the Year. He is eighteen right now. He was qualified for this award after winning his Next Gen ATP Finals.
However, other popular stars like Roger Federer and Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan collected the Fans’ Favourite awards.
