Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez could not control his excitement after netting his first-ever international hattrick against Mexico today.
The Inter forward helped Argentina secure a 4-0 victory against a strong Mexico side and was “happy and excited” to have scored the three goals.
Lionel Scaloni’s men were in fine form as they ended Gerardo Martino’s Mexico’s unbeaten run with four goals in the first half itself in Texas.
Lautaro Martinez, who impressed for Lionel Scaloni in the Copa America as well, was the main man scoring three with Leandro Paredes converting another from the spot.

Martinez, with his brilliant performance, moved on to 9 goals in his 13 Argentina appearances. He said via the team’s Twitter account:
“I am happy and excited.
“There is a lot of sacrifices that one makes to be here and not every day three goals are made with this shirt.”
Apart from his three goals Martinez also helped Argentina win the penalty kick that was converted by PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes. The 22-year-old also hailed his teammates for the scintillating display on the field:
“It is very difficult to get here and stay. There are very good players.
“I am very happy and grateful to my team-mates and the coaching staff. We train to give joy to the national team. Hopefully, we continue along this path.”
The win was a much-needed one for this young Argentine side that failed to score against Chile in a 0-0 draw a few days back. The thumping victory against a strong Mexico side should give Lionel Scaloni hope and confidence moving forward.
Scaloni said before the match that Argentina deserves a lot more credit than they got for their performances in the recent past despite failing to get their hands on silverware.
