Mark Davis Told Jack Del Rio That He Wanted John Gruden ‘Every Chance He Got’

In the latest interview Del Rio good that he heard quite often from David that he likes to retain Gruden. He was very much outward and he always wanted John and if any opportunity comes in the midway and he will welcome him with due respect.

This was told by Del Rio to Greg Bishop. He told this to the media each and every time he got a chance.

Del Rio makes the Raiders proud through a record-breaking win 25-23 for the last three seasons. However, he didn’t coach since he was fired by Davis. When Davis convinced Gruden to retake Raider’s job, he gave the coach a 10-year agreement of $100 million.

Davis got what he is looking for after Gruden returns. But this came at the expense of Rio. He earned a reputation as a Raider fan in the East Bay.

It is essential to mention that Del Rio was a tank holder till Raiders owner Mark Davis found him. It doesn’t happen all of a sudden but Davis saw John Houden leave the booth in the 2017 season. Del Rio told Davis that he would bring Gruden when they hired Del Rio as a replacement for Dennis Allen in 2015. He further mentioned that Davis reiterated his intentions when he signed a 4-year deal in 2017. Del Rio was removed from the team after the 2017 season when Oakland won 6-10 and left with no other but to replace with Gruden.

Gruden spent almost four seasons with Raiders ranging from 1998-2001. Thereafter, he left the team and join Tampa Bay. He spent six more seasons with Bucs before he took retirement. Currently, he is working as a television analyst.
