Notre Dame finished last week as double-digit underdogs versus Georgia. This week, the Irish are in shape to end as double-digit favorites as they welcome No. 18 Virginia to Notre Dame Stadium for the first time.
Point Spread: Notre Dame -12.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Notre Dame -500; Virginia +350
Over/under: 48.5 (-110)
The spread opened with the Irish giving 10.5 points and has moved two points in Notre Dame’s favor since then. There hasn’t been much activity on the line in the past day the line will likely finish at 12.5, or close to it.
The Irish are undoubtedly talented enough to cover the 12.5 points, but if you bet on Notre Dame, you’re not betting on talent.
Each week, USA TODAY Sports endeavors to get a more accurate picture of the college football landscape by re-ranking every team in the country (all 130 of them) according to their performance in 2019, not their preseason expectations.
With wins over Louisville and New Mexico and a close road loss to Georgia, Notre Dame slots into those rankings at No. 11.
The Irish were No. 7 before the loss to the Bulldogs and fell just four slots. Notre Dame currently ranks No. 10 in both the AP Poll and the Amway Coaches Poll after the Georgia game.
The biggest difference between the two traditional polls and the USA TODAY rankings is the top-five. Clemson still sits at No. 1 in USA TODAY’s estimation, but the Tigers are followed by No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Alabama and No. 5 Ohio State. Iowa also slides in at No 10 just ahead of the Irish.
Here is the top-15 according to the USA TODAY re-rank:
- Ohio State
- Notre Dame
- Boise State
- Penn State
