The baseball season is here, so let’s take a look at some common mistakes we see baseball players make in season and how we can avoid them. The sleep and nutrition habits of baseball players are often poor, and they stop working out. As a result of poor time management skills, these problems are compounded. These easy tips will help you maximize your season by managing your time wisely!

1• You Stop Working Out
Let’s be honest, we get it. Our schedule was hectic as players, complete with school, practices after the school day, games, travel, lessons…but as we said, it was a schedule. The majority of NCAA and professional teams lift during the season. You don’t have to spend too much time on your body if you dedicate 2-3 hours a week to it.
Let’s look at it from a different perspective. An online survey recently found that 29.4% of people play Fortnite for fewer than five hours a week, while 32.5% play for six to ten hours a week. While we do not promote not playing video games, we enjoy watching some noobs play Battlefield 1 on the PS4 occasionally, but we don’t have to let it negatively affect our training.
2. You Don’t Get Enough Sleep
A teenager’s sleep is by far one of the most neglected areas. Our own experience has led us to this conclusion. During the 2000-2004 school year, we stayed up past midnight watching TV, playing video games (cell phones weren’t around yet).
The routine would be the same every week, waking up at 5:45 in the morning. We usually slept until 1-2 in the afternoon on the weekends. In other words, we were sluggish! Gradually, our grades declined, and our bodies recovered slowly.
A key component of the body’s functioning is sleep, which is important to cognition, learning, development, and both mental and physical health. Sporting performance can be maximized by identifying sleep problems and following recommended sleep guidelines, despite numerous consequences associated with inadequate sleep.
3• Time and Schedule Management
As we discussed above, finding time to lift is one of the biggest challenges to strength training. It’s always possible for everyone to improve their time management skills. Our athletes’ number one excuse, especially during the summer season, is that they don’t have enough time.
Today’s sports world can be full of athletes with all sorts of schedules. This has become the norm for playing sports, so there is no way around it. The most important thing that changes are your priorities and your choices. Your sleep, nutrition, and development will be affected by these choices and priorities.
If you want to be the best of the best, and make it all the way to the MLB, then this is something you really need to take seriously. Things like MLB picks and parlays will come easy as well, if you are watching all the games and follow by example.
4• Lack of Separation
During the stride and separation phase of the swing, the hitter does not create enough “slingshot”. Having separation and being comfortable with the stance are the most important factors.
5• Your Nutrition is Lacking
Your energy levels, baseball performance, and overall health will all be influenced by the nutrition and food choices you make every day! A lack of proper nutrition can lead to lethargic behavior and a loss of concentration, as well as failure to recover your body. Your academic and athletic performance will be affected by all of these factors.
It is important to remember that your food is your fuel. A lot is determined by your nutrition, especially if you are trying to perform well in baseball. The most important thing we would like you to realize is that this program is not a “diet.”
Diets are often limiting, restrictive, and difficult for athletes to follow, especially NCAA, high school, and youth athletes. Foods that are high in quality and highly nutritious are what we need in abundance.
Many people make the mistake of seeking a quick fix or a quick solution to a problem that needs a long-term commitment. It’s true that cutting out junk food and adding in nutrients will help in the short term, but you should keep in mind that sports performance can be achieved at any time.
Final Thoughts
Obviously, there are many other mistakes that every baseball player makes, and they should be avoided, but in a short article it’s difficult to include them all. Although we are unable to cover every mistake a baseball player can make, we have included our top list of things to avoid during a game. We would like to hear from you if you think there are any other common mistakes to avoid when playing baseball that we should include in this article.
