“Allan Saint-Maximin’s “100% fit” and ready to take Newcastle United forward,” said Steve Bruce after watching the winger, return from a hamstring injury, on the back of a full week’s training.
Saint-Maximin, has come on a transfer from Nice in the summer, was an unused substitute for their latest 5-0 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. However, Bruce has decided to start Saint-Maximin against Manchester United at St James’s Park tomorrow.
“He gives us an edge we haven’t got,” said Bruce. “He’s is kind of fast and he’s got a bit explosive, and we’ve seen that. He will obviously give us something which will add to us while going ahead.”
“Last game week, when it went to 3-0, I tried to bring on (DeAndre) Yedlin instead of him, as it’s been still on and off with him. I decided to give him a bit more time or a week of training, which he’s had. That has cleared everything now, and he’s 100% fit.”
United was organized in an attempt to try and put their team boot on the throat of Brighton on Saturday, with Miguel Almiron and Christian Atsu advice to join Joelinton in pressing from the forward for the Magpies.
It was a trial to get on the front foot but did not work at all, with Isaac Hayden was overheard saying “It’s not working” comment directed at the way the front three were not able to stem the tide of green shirts.
It created an interesting situation that saw three formations tried out against the Seagulls and Bruce candidly admitting afterward that his experiment will not work out again.
