Ravichandran Ashwin (born 17 September 1986 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu) is an Indian cricketer who plays for the international team. He is a right-arm spin bowler.

But he also batted well in Test cricket. Ashwin is a right-handed batsman. He is a 6-foot 2-inch tall cricketer.

Test cricket

In the West Indies cricket team, Ashwin scored 12 centuries and 103 in Test cricket. His best bowling figures in Test cricket are 12/85 against Australia in Hyderabad.

Ashwin is the fastest bowler to take 100 wickets in the 18th Test match, the 5th fastest bowler in the world.

He became the first Indian to score a century and take 5 wickets. He is the third Indian to receive the Man of the Match award for the first time. He took 28 wickets in the same series against Australia, beating Anil Kumble’s world record. He has taken 1204 runs in 32 matches, taking 176 wickets.

One Day International

Ravichandran Ashwin scored 658 runs and took 142 wickets in 102 matches. His best bowling figure in ODIs at the World Cup 2015 was 4/25 vs UAE.

He was praised at One Day International for his economical rate of bowling and variations. His highest batting score is 65 vs New Zealand.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finished the decade with the most wickets in international cricket with 564 wickets in all formats.

Former India captain and now BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has congratulated the off-spinner but said he was not honored by Ashwin’s achievement.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) posted a picture of R Ashwin on his social media accounts on Tuesday, citing the top 5 wicket-takers of the decade.

The 33-year-old Ashwin is the only spinner on the elite list, while England fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad are 2nd and 3rd respectively. Anderson had 535 scallops to his name and Brad had 525 wickets under his belt.

New Zealand fast bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult finished the decade with 472 and 458 wickets respectively.

Praising Ashwin, Sourav Ganguly said on Twitter, “This is the most international wicket for Ashwin in a decade. An attempt … a feeling that goes unnoticed at times. Super stuff.”
