Captain Virat Kohli and Vice-Captain Rohit Sharma have been competing for the top position in T20 for a while now. However, in the case of ODIs, Kohli has been proving himself for a while now. But Rohit Sharma managed to narrow the gap this time in 2019.

In twenty-six ODIs this year, Rohit scored about 1268 runs. However, Kohli is still number one. The young captain has scored 1292 runs in twenty-two games.

This means that Rohit has two matches to surpass Kohli but become India’s leading scoring batsman in ODIs this year. Beyond their individual records, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have become the second most successful Indian pair in ODIs after Sachin and Ganguly.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma need to score 18 runs together in the 2nd ODI against West Indies at ACA VCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam to beat the record of Rohit and Dhawan.

Kohli-Rohit has scored 4,736 runs together in ODIs while Rohit and Dhawan have a total of 4,753 runs.

Kohli-Rohit has an awesome opportunity to prove itself against the West Indies. Of course, it is a must-have to win the match for the duo. However, there is still a long journey to surpass the record of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

Tendulkar and Ganguly’s duo have scored 8,227 runs in ODIs. This is itself is the world record.

However, Rohit and Kohli could not surpass the expectations of the people in the first ODI held in Chennai. India lost the match badly by at least eight wickets. Rohit scored 36 while Kohli made only 4 runs in the match.
