Mike Bennett wants to part ways with WWE.
Mike Bennet says He has never been ok with just collecting a paycheque. When it comes to underutilized talent in the WWE, there’s quite a list. One of the names near the top is the Brokenhearted Lover Mike Kanellis.
The former 24/7 Champion has been with the company for a few years now but has rarely been used throughout the majority of his run, getting most of his exposure through a stint on 205 Live.
Bennett, who currently wrestles for WWE under the pseudonym Mike Kanellis, has asked for his release from the promotion. Bennett publicly announced the news Monday on Twitter.
Says he has been with the company for almost three years and is incredibly grateful for the opportunity. Bennet Wrote. “I re-signed with the company back in June because I thought it was what was best for my family, and maybe from a financial standpoint it was,” Bennett continued.
Bennett’s wife, Maria Kanellis, is also signed by WWE. There is no word on if WWE will grant Bennett his release.
Bennett, usually paired with his wife, Maria Kanellis, has been working for WWE since June 2017, performing on Smackdown, 205 Live, and Raw.
Last Friday, it looked like he formed an alliance with Brian Kendrick after he attacked Akira Tozawa to help Kendrick win a hardcore match.
Much more prominently, since he re-signed with WWE in June, Bennett has been part of a storyline on Raw in which his wife was knocked up by another man and is publicly humiliating him about it.
Kanellis’ frustration is understandable. The 34-year-old is one of many mid-card wrestlers within WWE who only sporadically sees screen time on Raw and SmackDown.
Though it looks like Bennett sincerely asked for his release for understandable reasons, this might not mean this is the end of his time in WWE.
The last time a WWE star publicly asked for his release on social media, the company reportedly extended his contract and he showed up back on WWE programming months later. However Bennett’s story ends up playing out, we’ll keep you updated.
