USA’s Dalilah Muhammad sets New world record ijn World Athletics Championships

Yet another stunning night of Athletics in Doha. If you look at all the record-breaking performances and otherwise, it was somehow a different experience watching Dalilah Muhammad beat Sydney McLaughlin in the 400 meters hurdles.

It also turned out to be her second world record of the year. McLaughlin is merely 20 yet she is already giving the 29-year-old a run for her money, literally, and one day soon she will be the undisputed queen.

This is not to belittle the marvelous athlete that Dalilah is but just to describe the audacity of Sydney’s feats.

On Friday night, Dalilah ran a timing of 52.16 seconds in the decider as she went edged her 20-year-old US rival Sydney McLaughlin who took home the silver in 52.23 seconds. Jamaica’s Rushell Clayton also bagged the bronze medal.

“This means a lot,” says Muhammad, the 29-year-old Olympic champion as quoted by IAAF.org.

“It is extremely tough to describe it. I badly wanted the world title so much, but to go past the world record once more is obviously fantastic.

“I had it in my mind from the beginning of the race that I am gonna go for it and I sense Sydney coming at me closing around hurdle nine.

Then I literally put in everything that I’d got. I still can’t believe it, but it feels good,” she added.

Earlier in US Championships in Des Moines the July of this year, Dalilah bested the 2003 world record of 52.34 posted by Russia’s Yulia Pechonkina, with a time of 52.20 seconds.

The world of athletics is in a desperate need for superstars with the previous generation almost nearing extinction.

Last year, Bolt called curtains on his all-time great career and since then, the sport has to a good extent lost its shine with all these doping scams flying around.
