The local fighters have endured an on and off start to the UFC 243 in Melbourne, with Aussie Nadia Kassem suffering a brutal loss.

Kassem was defeated resoundingly by Ji Yeon Kim towards the end in the second round of their flyweight encounter at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

The referee ended the fight with just a second left in the round after Kassem enduring a host of brutal punches that saw her bleeding from the nose.

“The long-lasting sequence was a little difficult to watch,” ESPN’s MMA expert Ariel Helwani tweeted.

Kassem was in total rage as she walked away from the Octagon – her record stands 1-2 with both defeats in Australia.

To be honest the people from the down under did not really have a forgetful day as Megan Anderson eased into a submission victory in the next fight.

Anderson forced Zarah Fairn dos Santos into a tap out in the first round with a stunning and near perfect triangle choke.

“It really feels good to come home to Australia, they’re the most amazing fans in the world so thank you for your support,” Anderson said after the match.

It was the featherweight’s only fight in Australia in nearly five years after fight out all her previous eight contests in the United States.

Adesanya backed over Whittaker Stablemates, has explained that Israel Adesanya has always been confident that he will be a UFC world champion, and one eminent Australian fighter will be very badly hoping for his win against Robert Whittaker at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

The New Zealand-based Adesanya has shown his much-admired confidence in Melbourne this week and remains confident that he will end Whittaker’s middleweight title reign.

The Nigerian-born Adesanya boasts of a perfect 17-0 MMA record and is 6-0 under the UFC banner.

He took home the interim title in his previous fight and in less than a couple of years with the UFC, has been promoted into a full-fledged championship encounter with Whittaker, who himself boasts of a nine-fight unbeaten streak dating back over five years.
