Orlando Pride faced Chicago Red Stars on September 11, 2019. While it was halfway through the match, the club declared that they are going to host the first-ever match for promoting Breast Cancer Awareness. This match was scheduled on Oct 12, 2019, where they will face Reign F.C.
Besides the match, it was also decided that there will be an NWSL-wide auction, which shall be online and this will be in the favor of Libby’s Legacy. The latter being a non-profit organization from Orlando, selected by Toni Pressley, an Orlando Pride defender, who was diagnosed with breast cancer on August 7.
This match promoting breast cancer was a result of the robust initiative by Alyssa Naeher, Casey Short and the other players from Chicago Red Stars. The sole motive to host such a match was to provide support for Pressley and the others, who are impacted by breast cancer, the terror of modern times.
The Red Stars Defender, Short, was a mouthful of praises for Toni, who according to her, is quite admired not only on-field as a player but also off it, as a human being. The event as well as the auction motivating both for the team as well as the fans, added Short.
This initiative is laudable and one that doesn’t happen very often no matter what the sport is. Events like these are exemplary of the strong bond that exists between the players of the various leagues all over the world.
Pressley was heard saying that he is overwhelmed with gratitude from this auction and in fact, for all such initiatives taken to support him and the noble cause. It is a cause to be engaged in to save millions all across the world from breast cancer, which is plaguing the world of today.
