UFC 242: Khabib Nurmagomedov brings sportsmanship and a brutal submission

Professional fighters praised Khabib on Twitter on his win against Dustin Poirier, here at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi. Khabib took control in his hands and maintained that till the last round, eventually defeating Dustin.

Nurmagomedev filed his 28th victory out of 28 fights by submitting Dustin Poirier in the third round at UFC 242 on Saturday. The Russian Khabib defeated America’s Dustin in the third round by naked choke from the rear, while winning the earlier 2 rounds as well. By this victory, he passed himself to the top of the leaderboard in UFC’s 155 lb fighter list.

Khabib also defeated Notorious via the submission last year at UFC 229. Khabib got suspended after a brawl took place between the two teams after that fight.

He returned with a great reputation as one of the world’s most commanding fighters and fought with Dustin Poirier.

Though, in April, Dustin won the interim title by defeating Max Holloway, current featherweight champion, at UFC 236. The stage for Saturday’s champion vs champion fight was set only after this win of Dustin.

The Eagle came with the mindset to reclaim the top position and achieved the position by punishing the Diamond in all three rounds.

When the fight ended, Khabib wore a t-shirt of Poirier and promised to auction it to help in raising the money for a charitable organization, The Good Fight Foundation.

There is no information provided on when will he return to the ring as he said he will take some rest before facing someone in any future fights.

It is said that Khabib’s next opponent may be Tony Ferguson, former interim champion. However, he has been booked in 4 fights earlier which were fought between him and Khabib were canceled each time due to illness or injury.

The next may happen between these two, one who’s the champion, the other being the serious contender for the position.
