According to former Chelsea and Marseille forward Tony Cascarino, Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling is better than Neymar and should be looking to bag the Ballon d’Or in the near future.
Raheem Sterling has been in unstoppable form for Pep Guardiola’s side and was also at his very best for England in their 4-0 win against Bulgaria on Saturday evening.
Cascarino believes that Sterling, who registered more goals and assists than Neymar last season, is without a doubt among the top 5 players in the world.
Neymar came back into action from injury for Brazil in the 2-2 draw with Colombia and also found the net in the thriller. But Cascarino is of the opinion that Sterling has been a far better player than the Brazilian in recent seasons.
“Who would you rather have: Neymar or Sterling? I’d have Sterling as a player.
“Try to ignore the antics that have gone on with Neymar off the field, I actually think Sterling’s better on the field.
“His numbers are better and he’s playing in a better team. I’ve seen Neymar do things that no other footballer can do in the game, like a ‘Harlem Globetrotter’ footballer.
“But if you want a player to be brilliant for the team and score goals at the rate Neymar can, Sterling’s your man.”
Sterling has been sensational and the key to Manchester City’s success in the recent past as he helped the team secure the domestic treble last season.
The England international played twice as many games as Neymar, who has been plagued by injuries but also scored and assisted a lot more than the PSG man.
Cascarino also praised Pep Guardiola for the evolution of Raheem Sterling and tipped the 24-year-old to hit the 30 goal mark this season.
