Arguably the greatest player the game of football has ever seen, Lionel Messi, has an exit clause in his current deal at Barcelona as revealed by El Pais.
Speaking in the same context, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes that Lionel Messi has “earned the right” to break his Barcelona contract if he so wishes. But the Spaniard also made it clear that nobody in Barcelona is overly concerned with such probabilities.
Messi, who is now 32, has the option to part ways with the club at the end of any given season if he seeks a new challenge in his career.
The Argentine wonderboy is in contract with Barcelona till 2021 with the Spanish giants interested in extending his contract.
Pique was quoted as saying by Cadena Ser:
“I already knew Messi is able to leave for free at the end of each season.
But we all know the commitment Leo has to Barca and it doesn’t worry me at all. He’s earned the right to be able to choose what he does with his future after everything he’s given the club.”
After a long-running saga, Lionel Messi signed a new contract with Barcelona in 2017. Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has already voiced his eagerness to keep the little man at Camp Nou with another agreement.
The South-American heavyweight had previously stated that he would love a return to Newell’s Old Boys before he calls it time. But he hasn’t yet dropped any hint as to when a move away from Barcelona could be on the cards.
