Ole Gunnar Reveals Harry Maguire Status On Manchester United’s Match Against Chelsea

Manchester United thumped their British rivals Chelsea 4-0. Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted with the win. He especially picked out Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for their remarkable performances.

United went ahead in the match thanks to a penalty from Rashford, despite a slow start. After the half-time break, The Red Devils cemented their win with Rashford, Martial and young Daniel James all getting their names on the score sheet

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Solskjaer said that: “The second half was really outstanding. We defended well in shape and counter-attacked and were more composed on the ball. The second half will give us loads of belief and self-confidence in the way we settled down and passed the ball around.”

When asked about Harry Maguire, Solskjaer added: “He’s done exactly what we signed him for. His presence in both boxes, his composure, and calmness on the ball, and he is a leader. With David and him and Victor, they marshaled that back-line well. We’ve got two young, attacking full-backs who want to go forward. So it’s important to have strong personalities at the back.”

Harry Maguire had moved from Leicester to Old Trafford for a whooping £80million. Breaking all records and also became the most expensive defender in the history of football, eclipsing over the £75m move of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool in January 2018.

The United boss had identified Maguire as his priority target at the start of the summer. He also revealed how the Norwegian had already made an impact on his squad ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea. Ahead of the match, Solskjaer said, “I made my mind up then that if it was possible to get him, we would. He was always my number one target. He is so disciplined and composed with the ball and gives the team another dimension.”

Solskjaer was reluctant to make comparisons between Maguire and Van Dijk. Football pundits have already predicted the United team to finish in the top four this season. They’ve hailed Maguire to become a United legend in the foreseeable future.
